One night after recording their first win of the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers will kick off a three-game homestand Saturday versus the Charlotte Bobcats at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cavs lost their first two games of the 2009-10 season before reaching the win column with Friday's 104-87 victory at Minnesota. Superstar LeBron James finished with 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Cleveland, which compiled the NBA's best record last season.

Mo Williams tallied 20 points and six assists, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 15 points and Daniel Gibson 14 in the win.

"I think it's good that we keep playing a lot of games," said Ilgauskas. "We get a chance to fix things on the floor. We're right where we need to be offensively and defensively."

Cavs newcomer Shaquille O'Neal had seven rebounds, six points and three blocks. Cleveland will also host Washington and Chicago on the residency.

Meanwhile, the Bobcats enter this matchup fresh off last night's 102-100 double overtime victory versus the New York Knicks at Time Warner Cable Arena.

D.J. Augustin sank the two eventual game-winning free throws with 2.5 seconds remaining in double-OT, as the Bobcats held on for the win despite blowing an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter. Raymond Felton, who left the game late with a knee injury but returned, added 22 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for Charlotte, which opened the new campaign with a 92-59 setback at Boston on Wednesday.

After coasting to a win in the first game of a back-to-back set, the Lakers hope to have some energy left Wednesday night when they visit the run-and-gun Golden State Warriors, playing for the first time in nearly a week.

Los Angeles (43-10) pulled away from Atlanta with a 22-12 scoring advantage in the second quarter Tuesday night. It then used a 40-point third period to help build a 25-point lead before cruising to a 96-83 win that coach Phil Jackson hopes is the start of a strong stretch run.

``Playing through a lot of road games, being consistent, not thinking this is a done deal yet,'' Jackson said, ticking off the league-leading Lakers' goals for the rest of the season. ``Getting off to a good start coming out of this break is also important to us.''

Six Los Angeles players reached double figures in scoring in the Lakers' eighth win in nine games. More importantly for Wednesday's matchup, the Lakers got plenty of rest with the game wrapped up early.

Kobe Bryant played 28-plus minutes and Pau Gasol recorded his third career triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in just under 31 minutes. Lamar Odom, who had 15 points and 20 boards, led the team with 34 minutes.

The Hawks continue their season-high stretch of six straight road games Wednesday night in Sacramento, where they've dropped eight in a row to the Kings.

Atlanta (31-22) won five of seven games entering the All-Star break, and was seeking its third straight victory overall Tuesday night. Instead, the Hawks fell 96-83 to the Western Conference-leading Los Angeles Lakers.

The Hawks led by nine points early, but got outscored 40-24 in the third quarter to decide the game.

"We played a quarter and a half and then they hit us in the mouth and they shut us down,'' coach Mike Woodson said. "Coming out in the third quarter, we were just flat, so flat, to the point where, when they hit us we didn't respond.''

Atlanta shot just 36.9 percent from the field, with All-Star Joe Johnson finishing with 14 points and Josh Smith adding 13. Mike Bibby was held to nine points - well below his 15.6 average - all in the first quarter.

Sacramento has traditionally been a difficult place for the Hawks to play. Since a 100-94 victory on Feb. 23, 2000, they've dropped eight straight visits there by an average margin of 16.3 points. They've also dropped 12 of their last 15 overall meetings with the Kings since Feb. 20, 2001.

The Mavericks play their first game since the All-Star break Wednesday night, seeking a ninth straight home victory against the New Jersey Nets.

Dallas (31-21) lost four in a row from Jan. 9-14 but has since won nine of 13. While trying to improve to 3-0 on their current four-game homestand Thursday night, the Mavericks fell 99-92 to Eastern Conference-leading Boston in their final contest before the break.

Despite leading by as many as 15 points in the third quarter, Dallas struggled down the stretch and lost the lead with 5:37 remaining.

Eight-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki - the Mavericks' lone representative at Sunday's game - had a game-high 37 points, but it wasn't enough as Boston's Paul Pierce scored 18 of his 31 in the fourth quarter.

You could say we lost focus, you could say they got hot, which Paul (Pierce) did,'' said Josh Howard, who was limited to 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting before fouling out.

A home matchup with the Nets (24-30) has usually been enough to get the Mavericks back into the win column. After winning 11 straight against New Jersey, the teams have split the last six overall meetings with Dallas losing 121-97 at New Jersey on Dec. 19.

The Bulls look to put aside trade rumors and reports of their general manager stepping down Wednesday night with a strong effort against the Milwaukee Bucks, one of the teams they're chasing for a playoff spot.

While Chicago (23-30) didn't have lofty expectations this season, many believed they could be competitive after selecting Derrick Rose first overall in the draft. For most of the first half of the season, though, the Bulls struggled.

General manager John Paxson has been criticized for the team's performance and on Friday, a published report said he would step down - something the team has denied. First-year coach Vinny Del Negro said he spoke to Paxson over the weekend and they joked about the rumors. Del Negro also said he expects Paxson to stay on the job for the rest of the season.

Power forward Tyrus Thomas, who is averaging 17.8 points and 10.6 rebounds in five games this month, has also been the focus of several trade rumors. With the deadline looming on Thursday, his name has been mentioned in potential deals with Phoenix and Toronto.

``You have to ask them,'' he said as he pointed toward the team's offices at the Bulls' practice facility Tuesday. ``I don't control anything.''

Chicago (18-27) opened a seven-game road trip Sunday with a 109-108 overtime loss to Minnesota, its 13th defeat in 18 games.

Derrick Rose, who missed a 17-foot jumper at the end of regulation, had another chance to win it in the closing seconds of overtime. The 20-year-old point guard drove the lane and forced an off-balanced attempt that at least two Bulls had a chance to tip before the ball got knocked out of bounds.

Chicago led by 16 points early on Sunday and had a four-point lead with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, but again let it slip away. The Bulls have been unable to make key shots and stops lately, as they've had fourth-quarter leads four times during their five-game skid.

They have not lost six straight games since Nov. 14-24, 2006.

``It's frustrating,'' said second-year forward Joakim Noah, who had 14 points and a career-high seven blocked shots against the Timberwolves. ``It's very frustrating to lose that way... especially games we are capable of winning.''

It's not going to get much easier for a Chicago team that struggles on the road.

The Bulls, who won't return home until Feb. 10, have lost 10 of 12 away from the United Center and are 5-17 on the road this season.

Chicago has won two of its last three games over the Clippers (10-34) at Staples Center, though, after losing its previous five games there.

The Bulls beat Los Angeles 115-109 in overtime on Dec. 17, and have won two straight over the Clippers after dropping 13 of the previous 15 meetings.

Richard Hamilton's removal from the starting lineup has all sorts of implications, both big and small.

The Pistons' big men will be happy because they'll get more playing time. So will the team's shortest player, backup point guard Will Bynum...

Bynum's main role, when he enters late in the first quarter or early in the second, will be to get Hamilton the ball in his sweet spots. Curry wants to reduce Rodney Stuckey's minutes so that his second-year point guard is not gassed by playoff time. Bynum made four assists in just four minutes at Memphis Monday.

"I try to teach him little stuff when I'm out there, like last game, knowing where I'm going to be at," Hamilton said. "It's another part of my game that I've got to make an adjustment."

Curry plans to bring in Hamilton no later than with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. He could substitute for either Allen Iverson, Tayshaun Prince or Stuckey.

There is sure to be some substitution alterations. Wednesday night the Pistons new starting lineup started clicking in the 3rd quarter and coach Curry decided to leave the starting unit out and forgo his planned substitutions. The result was the Pistons outscoring the Raptors 30-19 in the third quarter.

Portland (25-17) shot 40.7 percent from the field but committed only seven turnovers and outscored Cleveland 25-11 at the free-throw line to stay close in a 104-98 home loss to the Central Division-leading Cavaliers on Wednesday night.

The Blazers' third loss in five games was disappointing, but the club takes some solace in its ability to remain competitive.

``We just waited too long to get going. Maybe we were in awe of LeBron (James). I'm not sure what it was,'' center Joel Przybilla said. ``We need to believe we're one of the best teams in the league and we can play with anybody.''

The Wizards (9-33) are naturally less optimistic about their abilities to compete with the NBA's top talent. Though Washington was able to defeat Cleveland on Jan. 4, it's lost eight of 10 games since then, including an uninspired 117-97 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.

``They broke us down and beat us up,'' said Wizards coach Ed Tapscott, whose team trailed by as much as 36. ``They play the game at a very high level and they sustain that level. We had some decent moments, but we had far too many bad moments tonight.''

Andre Iguodala poured in a game-best 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, as Philadelphia moved to .500 (20-20) for the first time since November 24 via a 107-97 victory over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Andre Miller chipped in 27 points, eight assists and five boards for the 76ers, who have won a season-high seven games in a row. The club hadn't won seven straight since February 26-March 10, 2007.

Lou Williams totaled 15 points in the win, while Thaddeus Young and Marreese Speights had 10 each.

Al Harrington logged 26 points and eight rebounds for New York, which has dropped two straight and five of seven overall. Quentin Richardson added 19 points and Wilson Chandler 17 in defeat.

David Lee had 15 points and 11 rebounds to tally his 28th double-double of the year in the loss. Only Orlando's Dwight Howard has more double-doubles this season, with 30.

With the Sixers holding a one-point lead late in the fourth, Speights' layup sparked a run of 10 straight Philadelphia points that gave the Sixers a 101-90 advantage with 3:03 left.

The run took the wind out of the Knicks' sail, and the 76ers' lead never dipped below eight points as Philly cruised to the finish.

Williams' three-pointer gave the Sixers a 26-25 lead after the opening frame, and Iguodala's three as the first half expired gave the visitors a 52-50 lead at the break.

"We're in a good rhythm," said Iguodala. "We're running the floor and just playing our game."

Young's layup capped an 8-0 Philly run that opened the third quarter and gave the Sixers a 60-50 lead with 9 1/2 minutes left.

Chris Duhon's three-pointer cut it to 60-57 for the Knicks; however, the 76ers reeled off 10 straight points for a 70-57 lead with 2:51 left in the third.

New York trailed, 76-66, heading into the final 12 minutes.

Down by 12 with just under 10 minutes to play, two Harrington free throws and a three from Danilo Gallinari cut the Knicks' deficit to 82-75.

"I think my rebounding is not at the top, but it's getting there," said Gallinari. "I'm working on getting it there."

Speights interjected with a jumper at the other end, but Harrington knocked down a pair of threes to make it 84-81 with 7:58 left to play.

The teams traded baskets and Nate Robinson's fast break finger roll brought the Knicks to within 86-85.

Monta Ellis will be in uniform for the Golden State Warriors on Friday night for the first time this season when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Warriors (13-30) decided after Thursday's practice to welcome back Ellis, who has missed the entire season while recovering from a sprained left ankle sustained five months ago in an accident on a motorized scooter.

Ellis has been back at practice for two weeks with the Warriors, who suspended him for 30 games without pay after the incident. The high-scoring guard got a six-year, $66 million contract extension about one month before crashing his scooter.

"I'm really happy, excited and looking forward to tomorrow," said Ellis, who also closed a deal to buy a new house Thursday.

"We decided as a group after practice that Friday's game would be a good situation for me," Ellis said in a statement released by the team. "I have worked extremely hard during my rehabilitation, with the help of the Warriors' staff, and feel that I'm ready to go. It's just nice to get back to the game that I love and to play for the fans who have been so good to me. I'm really pumped. It's a great day."

Ellis averaged career bests of 20.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season while emerging as a dependable shooter for the NBA's highest-scoring club. The former second-round draft pick out of high school in Jackson, Miss., was expected to be the centerpiece of Golden State's offense after Baron Davis' defection to the Clippers, but his injury was a big factor in the Warriors' dismal first half of the season

San Antonio allowed 100 points or more in three of its first four games, and in three straight before its current run.

Against the Nets (19-23), however, the Spurs have been dominant, holding them to 79.0 points and 38.1 percent shooting during a 12-game winning streak - including the postseason. New Jersey hasn't beaten San Antonio since a 77-76 home win in Game 4 of the 2003 NBA finals on June 11, 2003.

The Nets also enter this contest having lost a season-high four straight, averaging 90.5 points during that stretch, and with star point guard Devin Harris' status uncertain due to a nagging rib injury.

If Harris can't play, that would leave veteran Keyon Dooling to match up with Parker, averaging a career-best 20.4 points.
